The FAR West Regionals in Idaho - a recap
PV United traveled to Idaho this month to participate in the USYS Far West Regional Championship, having qualified for Regionals by finishing 1st in the NorCal State Cup Tournament.
One thing we all learned is that this PV United 2006G team will not give up! They had to fight from behind in their first three games, winning two and tying one. In their first game of the tournament, the girls played against the Alaska Rush, a club based out of Anchorage, Alaska. Down 1-0 for a significant portion of the match, they rallied off three straight goals to take their first victory of the tournament.
Their second game was against North Valley SC, a Southern California team based out of Woodland Hills. North Valley established a two-goal lead going into the half and our PV girls fought back with two unanswered goals to finish the game in a 2 – 2 tie.
The most exciting game of the tournament came in the third contest against the Eastside Timbers, a club out of Clackamas, Oregon. Eastside took a 2-0 lead into the half, PV United roared back scoring their first goal with 20 min left on the regulation clock. The Timbers quickly responded with a goal of their own extending the lead back to two up with only 15 minutes left to play. This didn’t sit well with our girls and they came roaring back scoring an exciting three goals in the final 15 minutes of the match securing the 4-3 victory, and qualifying to move on to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Unfortunately, they lost the next match to Summit FC, a club based out of Ogden, Utah. It was a disappointing 1 – 5 loss bringing the experience to an end for the 2006G PV girls. Though the team did not make it to the final match, much was achieved by participating in the Far West Regionals, not the least of which was exposing the team to competitive teams from around the western half of the U.S. and giving them a glips of life outside of the Central Coast area.
